Introducing Skyler Green

Skyler B. Green, tenor, is a native of Charleston, South Carolina.
He is a multitalented pianist, organist, composer/arranger, performer, and budding conductor. At Present, Mr. Green is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Music Industry at South Carolina State University, and is in voice studio of Dr. Johnnie Felder. Formerly, Green studied voice with Dr. Ramelle Brooks and Dr. Richard Hodges, whose influence shaped his voice at the start of his undergraduate experience. Skyler began playing the piano by ear at the age of three and was already playing the organ before his feet could reach the pedals. His early talent and passion for music led him to serve as organist for Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church North Charleston SC, under the direction of Dr. D’arrell Ravenell, Minister of Music. Additionally, Green is proficient in composing and arranging. His compositional skills extend to choral arrangements and gospel music often blending classical and gospel elements in innovative and expressive ways.

Skyler has played the piano and organ for many live events including weddings, funerals, restaurants, church services, revivals, concerts, and conventions. He has also performed with the Lowcountry Voices – Piccolo Spoleto Festival at Morris Street Baptist Church in downtown Charleston South Carolina. 

A highlight of his career includes performing alongside Grammy-nominated jazz trumpeter Willie Bradley, Music Industry Professor at South Carolina State University. In addition to playing the piano and organ, Skyler is proficient in composing and arranging. His compositional skills extend to choral arrangements and gospel music often blending classical and gospel elements in innovative and expressive ways.

In addition to his undergraduate studies, Mr. Green has participated as a lead soloist in Varna International Music Academy’s summer young artist program, MUZIKA! Skyler was featured in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s A Grand Night for Singing (as Jason), the Stage 2 Screen concert with orchestra, and solo features in VIMA’s Chanson du Soir French art song recital. He also appeared as a soloist at South Carolina’s oldest Italian restaurant, Villa Tronco, performing selections from A Grand Night for Singing. Mr. Green was a featured vocalist on the studio recording of the choral music of celebrated Black composer, Eve Jessye, under the direction of renowned composer Dr. Damon Dandridge, joining a distinguished roster of professional vocalists. Skyler’s goal is to pursue a Master of Music in Conducting and/or Vocal Performance, with the goal of becoming a university choral director while continuing his career in performance. Through teaching, conducting, and performing, he is committed to using his gifts to inspire, uplift, and build community through the love of music.
